When she was pulled over for speeding 14 mph over the posted limit, cardiac nurse Miriam Leverington had a message for Colorado Springs policeman Duaine Peters, the Denver Post reports.
Leverington apparently told Peters, “I hope you are not ever my patient.”
The comment cost Leverington her job, after the officer reported it to her bosses as a threat.
Leverington is appealing the firing with a three-judge panel on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, arguing she was exercising her free-speech rights to criticize the government. However, threats do not fall under this protection.
