North Carolina A&T State University held a safety meeting Friday after a man was fatally shot on campus.
Students expressed campus safety concerns to campus police and school administrators, who said they will increase officer patrols and add security cameras around campus, reports myfox8.com.
Around 11:30 p.m. on April 20, a visitor called campus police reporting that a man approached her with a handgun outside of Pride Hall. A fight ensued and the man’s gun was fired, although the woman was not shot or seriously hurt.

While police were looking for the suspect in that incident, they discovered Vic Kimeko D. James, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound inside a car in Pride Hall’s parking lot. James was taken to Moses Cone Hospital with life threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
James was not a student at North Carolina A&T and it is unknown if he was struck with the bullet fired during the visitor’s struggle with the suspect.
Attendees at Friday’s safety meeting called for improvements to security systems on campus.
“We need more cameras,” student Sam King said. “We need more emergency poles.”
North Carolina A&T is located in Greensboro. The death of James marked the third homicide in the city on April 20.
