Nooses Found At N.C. High School

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Students and school officials discovered four nooses at the Andrews High School campus, a day after the civil rights protest in Jena, La.

Administrators quickly alerted police when the nooses were found Sept. 21 at approximately 8:30 a.m. In the front of the North Carolina school, two nooses were found hanging on a tree, one red noose was tied to the school’s flagpole, and another was found near the upperclassmen’s parking lot.

For the remainder of the day, extra officers were placed on the campus to ensure security.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar event in Jena, La., where nooses were hung from a tree by three white students, who were not charged. Six black students, however, were arrested for beating a white classmate and being charged with attempted murder.
