LOS LUNAS, N.M. – Los Lunas High School has banned backpacks for the last week of school in an attempt to curtail pranks by graduating seniors.
This is the second year the ban has been in effect, reports KRQE. Parents were notified of the policy via the school’s messaging network several days ago.
The move was prompted by previous pranks involving silly string, shaving cream and water balloons filled with cooking oil and baby powder.
Backpack bans have also been implemented at other schools in response to more serious incidents. Last week in Atlanta for example, Atlanta High School implemented a temporary ban after a teen opened fire near campus, reports the Los Angeles Times. For the final week and a half of the school year, students will be required to carry their books by hand.
