NM State U. Officials: Standardized Cameras Would Improve Campus Security

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A lack of uniformity and sometimes quality of video surveillance equipment at New Mexico State University (NMSU) hampers police investigations.

Administrators claim that over the years, disparate cameras have been installed throughout the university that can render NMSU’s surveillance efforts ineffective. Because of this, school officials are hoping a new policy will help standardize the 200 cameras in use, reports the Las Cruces News.

The new guidelines cover who can access the cameras, installation, signage, training, video storage and more. The goal is to have all of the equipment in compliance with the new policy by June 2015.
