BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Officials at the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District issued a letter urging students to delete nude photos of classmates from their cell phones and social media pages or else they would possibly face legal consequences.
After learning that some students have taken nude photos of themselves and shared them electronically, Interim Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Dyer contacted local police, MyCentralJersey.com reports.
Authorities consider the images as child pornography.
Dyer has instructed principals to suspend students who possess the nude images, creates or distributes them for a minimum of five days. Additionally, students could lose the right to participate in end-of-school activities, such as trips, prom and possibly commencement ceremonies.
The B-R Regional School District and the police are working together with students and their families to address the situation without filing criminal charges.
Furthermore, Dyer has encouraged parents to talk with their children about the ramifications of creating and distributing inappropriate images.
