NEWTOWN, Conn. — Residents here voted Saturday to demolish and rebuild Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The state of Connecticut will allot $50 million to rebuild the new facility, which will be built away from the initial site so a memorial could be built in its place, Good Morning America reports.
Officials expect the school’s demolition to occur within the next few months and new construction to begin in the spring. School personnel aim to have the work complete in the beginning of 2015.
Meanwhile Sandy Hook Elementary students will be transported to nearby Chalk Hill Middle School for classes.
