The former head of security at Hillside School District in New Jersey agreed to a $100,000 settlement after claiming he was fired because he was white.

According to the lawsuit, John Young alleges he was told in a meeting with a district official in 2011 that Young’s subordinates were uncomfortable “with having a white boss.” Young was fired later that year.

Fifteen of Young’s 16 subordinates were not white, and there were several occasions where they acted out, according to nj.com. The suit also says Young was replaced by a non-white person.

The district has admitted no wrongdoing.
