Nearly a dozen K-12 and higher education campuses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut have been dealing with bomb threats since the beginning of the school year.

The number of threats, which is unusually high, has forced the evacuation of campuses and cancellation of classes, reports CBS News. Authorities and school officials have not determined if the threats have been coordinated or are the result of copycats.

The individual or individuals making the threats are demanding money, which is unusual.

Some of the campuses affected include Sandy Hook Elementary School, which is temporarily housed in Monroe, Conn., the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, as well as educational facilities in Bedford, Mass., Bedford, N.H., and Winchester, Mass.
