Forty-five security guards from the Recovery School District (RSD) in New Orleans have been laid off in an effort to cut costs. Nearly 80 security guards will still work on the district’s campuses.
The security layoffs are part of about $20 million in operational cuts to the RSD’s district-run schools, reported The Times-Picayune. Thirty-five central office employees are also expected to be laid off, in addition to some social workers, nurses and other employees. In an effort to maintain a safe campus, the district plans to install cameras in more schools.
