Published: April 19, 2007

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – A 16-year-old student of North Mecklenburg High School shot and killed himself April 18 after he had threatened two of his classmates in the campus parking lot.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was confronted by police in a gas station. It was at that time that he turned the weapon on himself. The student later died of his injuries in the hospital.

After the student made his threats, school officials locked down the campus so that a tragedy like the one that claimed 33 lives at Virginia Tech would not be repeated.
