N.Y. Woman Surrenders to FBI in Infant Abduction Case

NEW YORK – A woman has confessed to abducting the child she raised as her own for 23 years. Ann Pettway took 19-day-old Carlina White from Harlem Hospital after experiencing several miscarriages.

Pettway surrendered to the FBI and police in Bridgeport, Conn., on Jan. 23, several days after the girl she kidnapped was reunited with her biological parents, the Associated Press reports. Pettway told family members that the infant was her own, as she had recently been pregnant but had lost the baby.

Pettway could face a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison for the abduction if convicted.
