HOLBROOK, N.Y. — A student at Sachem North High School has been charged with computer trespass, a felony, for allegedly hacking into a district computer and accessing private student records.
Authorities accuse Matthew Calicchio, 17, of illegally accessing and downloading Sachem student records, which contain Social Security numbers and confidential medical information, in 2012 and 2013. Calicchio allegedly posted the information on 1Apps.com and Sachemunspun.com, Newsday reports.
School officials learned about the breach on Nov. 8, and discovered that a list of 15,000 student names dating to the early 2000s had been posted.
The suspect has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
