N.J. Schools Consider Allowing Police Direct Access to Video Feeds

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. — The police department here may now have access to the New Providence School District’s surveillance cameras as a way to boost security.

Previously, New Providence Police gained access to the district’s camera feed by going to the school board offices, NJ.com reports. However, following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Board of Education decided that it was necessary for the department to access the cameras quickly in the event of an incident.

Meanwhile, other districts, such as the Flemington-Raritan Regional School District might soon consider providing police with a real-time surveillance feed.
