DALLAS – A mistake in security procedures is being blamed for the escape of a capital murder suspect from Parkland Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening.
The suspect, Franklin Davis, 30, overpowered a deputy after the officer removed arm and leg restraints so Davis could take a shower before going back to prison, reports the Dallas News. Using a “makeshift sharp object,” Davis was able to take the officer’s gun and point it at the deputy. The forensic patient was captured four hours later near the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department acknowledged that some procedures were not followed, although the mistakes were not specified. The agency is investigating the incident.
