Mother Claims to be Victim of Hospital Security Attack

Published: March 2, 2011

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A woman who brought her 6-year-old son to Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital claims that she was assaulted by security officers upon trying to leave the facility. Jennifer Muth, whose son Phillip was suffering from a prolonged grand mal seizure, said that the hospital failed to administer treatment in a reasonable amount of time, so she attempted to take him elsewhere.

According to Muth, her son received initial care but was then ignored by hospital staff for several hours while suffering multiple seizures, ABC News reports. When she tried to take Phillip to his neurologist in Austin – he suffers from Lissencephaly, a neurological disorder – hospital security personnel assumed she was trying to abduct the child.

Muth alleges that she was handcuffed and repeatedly slammed against a concrete wall. She reportedly received two black eyes, facial bruising and a knee injury during the assault. Muth told the news source that after the incident, the hospital offered her son free treatment.

A statement issued by the hospital says Muth’s claims have been investigated and are without merit. Muth also contacted police; a report was made but no charges were filed.
