More Than $500K Designated For Md. School Bus Safety

MARYLAND — The Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention in Maryland has announced that more than half a million dollars have been committed to law enforcement agencies across the state to improve school bus safety.

Forty-six agencies will receive the funds, which total $548,000, The Baltimore Sun reports. The funds will be used to pay overtime for police and provide driver education materials such as public service announcements.

The funding comes at a time when the State Department of Education discovered more than 7,000 school bus safety violations by drivers in a single day study.
