More Police Officers Will Patrol Houston Schools

HOUSTON, The Houston Independent School District (HISD) announced it has hired more police officers to patrol schools with large numbers of evacuees from Hurricane Katrina.

This is being done in response to several altercations between Houston students and Katrina evacuees. Eighteen HISD schools will see an increase in patrols.

According to HISD officials, however, the overall number of disciplinary incidents for the district has declined this year.
