JOPLIN, Mo. — St. John’s Regional Medical Center took a direct hit from a tornado on Sunday evening. Approximately 200 staffers and 183 patients were evacuated from the facility, which was one of the only buildings left standing in the immediate area.
X-rays from the hospital were reportedly found in Dade County, which is 70 miles away, CNN reports. The hospital’s medical helicopter was blown away from its landing pad and was heavily damaged.
The hospital’s most critical patients were transported to Freeman Health System hospital, which is two miles away from St. John’s. Patients who could walk were taken to a community building in the city.
It is unknown if anyone was injured or killed when the tornado struck the hospital.
