CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) plans to enhance security at seven of its residence halls, including instituting a visual verification system to monitor students and guests entering the buildings.
As part of phase one of the security updates, MIT Residential Life and Dining has hired security company AlliedBarton to serve as desk attendants tracking guests from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., The Tech reports. A card scanner will be placed at the lobby desk in the residence halls that will display a student’s face when an MIT ID is scanned, so the desk attendance can make a visual comparison.
Additionally, all five undergraduate dorms will install security cameras outside the building and in the lobby.
