SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A security officer employed at Cox North Hospital for 15 years was pronounced dead Aug. 6, after a patient kicked him in his neck and spine.
Monte Ruby was trying to restrain Jeffrey Bolden, 41, who witnesses said was belligerent and uncooperative. Bolden’s wrists had been handcuffed to the bed when he used his right foot to kick Ruby in his neck.
Bolden was admitted to the hospital after a police dog bit him during a police chase. The suspect was accused of assaulting his father and attempting to burn down his father’s home.
The suspect had been charged with assault, but charges are likely to be upgraded as a result of Ruby’s death.
