Miss. Hospital Forms Sworn Police Force

PASCAGOULA, Miss. — The Singing River Health System is adding a campus police force to increase security. The new force, which is primarily comprised of retired law enforcement, was sworn in on April 7.

The police force is under the jurisdiction of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, WLOX reports. Randy Sanders, the campus police chief, said officers will have access to more education and training than the former security force.

Hospital officials say the change will help to manage the growing number of patients and needs within the facility.
