Tupelo Schools in Mississippi announced it will build a command center for the district’s security operations in one of its buildings.
The August 13 announcement comes after the school district installed additional surveillance cameras in many of its buildings, according to djournal.com.
School resource officers will be stationed at the command center to monitor camera footage during school hours or sporting events. At least one officer will be at the command center from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday, although district officials don’t expect to add any school resource officers to the existing staff.
The command center, which officials say is necessary due to the increase in cameras, will be constructed in the Fillmore Center, where three officers already work. The center will feature four 42″ LED monitors and three Dell stations.
The school district also installed window film in some of its buildings this summer as part of a $44 million bond project.
