Michigan School Hires Contract Security Officers

Published: July 7, 2008

BELLEVILLE, Mich. – Contract security officers will return to Belleville High School in the 2008-2009 school year, according to school officials. However, this announcement has brought about complaints from some paraprofessionals.

Two contract officers will patrol the halls of the high school and monitor student behavior. The duo will work a 7.5 hour day and will only work when students are in attendance.

As para-jobs are eliminated, many paraprofessionals believe they can do the same job the security officers can; however, school officials think otherwise, as security officers are specially trained to deal with certain circumstances and paraprofessionals are not.
