In its first semester of operation, a Michigan school safety initiative received 410 tips from students.
The OK2SAY! program allows students to submit confidential information about possible threats to school safety via phone, text, web and email. The verified tips reported to program operators with the Michigan State Police included 163 for bullying and cyberbullying, 54 for suicide threats and 13 for child abuse, Michigan Radio reports.
Once operators receive tips, they coordinate a response with appropriate agencies including schools, local law enforcement and mental health services.
