Mercyhurst U to Arm Police Officers

Mercyhurst University police officers will be armed by spring 2015.

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University board of trustees has adapted a policy that will arm campus police officers.

Although the university had considered arming its officers for some time, campus officials decided to approve the plan due to the recent streak of violence both nationally and locally, YourErie.com reports.

Currently, Mercyhurst University’s police department is working to create a set of guidelines for armed police officer.

University officials expect officers at Mercyhurst and Mercyhurst North East to start carrying guns in spring 2015.
