Medical Center Security Officer Thwarts Armed Suspect

A security officer with UCMC approached a suspicious man in the facility’s parking garage. The man pulled out a gun before fleeing the scene.

A security officer with University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) is being hailed for his actions after spotting a suspicious person in the hospital’s parking garage Nov. 20.

The security officer saw a man wandering through the hospital’s parking garage around 3 p.m. and approached him. The man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officer before running off, WCPO Cincinnati reports.

UCMC officials said the officer “acted heroically” and prevented the man from carrying out further acts.

In wake of the incident, the hospital will be increasing security in the garage by adding more patrols, installing new lighting and painting the facility.
