CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Allegany County Board of Education approved a $110 million budget for 2014 Tuesday with the stipulation that the board requests an additional $500,000 from the county for five school resource officers and two mental health professionals.
Currently, the state of Maryland will make available $25 million in grants for school security for 2014. However, that money would be used to upgrade security features on campus, such as video cameras, stronger glass, vestibules and other physical improvements, Cumberland Times-News reports.
