Massachusetts Hospital Stops Public Birth Announcements

Published: May 9, 2007

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – In response to a recent rash of newborn baby abductions, Jordan Hospital has stopped the practice of sending birth announcements to local newspapers.

With cases involving abductions by people with no ties to the family, Jordan Hospital joins Cape Cod and Falmouth hospitals in cutting off the public announcements. These measures come on the heels of a recent CS report in which a hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., began tagging its newborns with radio transmitters that could set off an alarm if the baby is taken from the immediate area.

According to a WHDH-TV news report, Jordan Hospital will provide parents with the necessary forms and contact information to forward birth information themselves.
