PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) has purchased 200 bulletproof whiteboards to offer professors more security in the event of an active shooter on campus.
UMES purchased the 18-by-20-inch whiteboards — designed to protect the user’s head and torso — from Hardwire LLC for nearly $60,000, CNN reports. University officials cited mass shootings, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, for adding the lightweight bulletproof whiteboards.
The whiteboards will be in classrooms when the fall semester starts on August 26.
