COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. — Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Columbus Regional Healthcare System on August 19 at 7 a.m.
A man walked into the parking lot and shot a woman and a man on the visitor’s side of the hospital, WECT reports. Police said the suspect, Elijah Jones, shot his estranged wife Joan Everette and her new boyfriend Ray Shipman.
Jones turned himself in at the courthouse after the incident. Everette died at the scene, and Shipman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
