Man Stabs 8 Chinese School Children to Death

BEIJING

A mentally ill man who formerly worked as a nurse or doctor in a community clinic slashed 13 Nanping City Experimental Elementary School students Tuesday. Eight died as a result of the attack, and five were wounded.

The attack occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. as parents were dropping off their children at school. The suspect, Zheng Minsheng, 41, mixed with parents at the entrance of the school before pulling out a large knife and randomly stabbing the children, according to the Seattle Times. Most of the victims were first graders.

Zheng was finally stopped by bystanders and security guards. Police arrested him a short time later. The school was closed for the day, and counseling is being offered.
