WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—A 77-year-old man reportedly fatally shot his ill wife at Winter Haven Hospital before killing himself.
Ramon Duckworth was visiting his wife Patricia, 76, who was hospitalized as a result of a stroke, in the hospital’s medical surgical unit Monday, according to the Miami Herald. Workers told police they heard gunshots coming from the room and immediately called hospital security and police.
The couple was dead when hospital workers found them. A .38-caliber revolver was also found in the room. No one else was present at the time of the incident.
An autopsy showed that Patricia suffered from two gunshots in the head and that her husband was shot once in the head. Authorities are conducting gunpowder residue tests to determine who actually pulled the trigger. However, the results of the tests will not be immediately known.
Additionally, police found a note in the hospital room that was apparently written for family, reports NewsChief.com. A will was also found with the letter.
Police don’t believe anyone else was in danger during the incident. Though the hospital was put on high alert immediately after the shooting, it was not placed on lockdown.
