NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — A man who was arrested and left in a cell for more than four hours after being tackled by police and security officers at Lions Gate Hospital won a lawsuit against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
A provincial court judge determined that officers had no grounds to arrest Jeung Ki Park in June 2006, The Vancouver Sun reports. Park and his elderly mother had come to the hospital to speak to her oncologist without making an appointment. The doctor refused to speak with them and said if they didn’t leave, he’d call security. Park and his mother were confronted by security when they attempted to file a complaint against the doctor.
Police were called to the hospital. They tackled and handcuffed Park in the hospital lobby.
