ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man who pulled a gun on three students from St. Petersburg High School was arrested after police chased him onto the school’s track prior to a track meet.
The man brandished the weapon and then chased the three students across campus, ABC News reports. A school resource officer heard the commotion and stepped in.
According to police, the students got into a confrontation with two non-students. Deondre Lumpkin, who is not a student, pulled a .38 caliber revolver and went after the students. They began yelling that there was a gun, but at first the resource officer thought they were referring to the starter pistol for the race.
When Lumpkin saw police, he disposed of the weapon in a trash can. It was recovered by officers.
