List of Failing Students Accidentally Sent to Whole Campus
DOVER, Del. — Wesley College’s dean of students is in hot water after accidentally forwarding a private E-mail, which listed students at risk of failing, to every student on campus.
The alert, which lists 18 at-risk undergraduates, was only meant to go to academic advisers; however, all 2,400 Wesley students received it, reports USA Today. Though the message was retracted, some people saved copies. The school has apologized to the students listed in the message.
The mishap potentially violates the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). As a result, the school has changed its E-mail policy to require a sender to get approval from a second administrator before it is released.
