Student Admits Report of Police Misconduct Was Fake

Published: May 10, 2011

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A law student from the University of Virginia admitted that an editorial he wrote about being mistreated by campus police was untrue.

Jonathan Perkins, 25, said he wrote the article to bring attention to the topic of police misconduct, the Washington Examiner reports. However, he was not stopped and questioned by police as he initially claimed.

After Perkins wrote the letter to the editor that appeared in the Virginia Law Weekly, the university’s police force launched an investigation into the incident.

No charges will be filed against Perkins for making a false claim.
