LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is in the midst of yet another child sex abuse scandal, this time allegedly involving a high school music teacher.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is investigating claims by a former student that he showered with Hamilton High School music magnet teacher Vance Miller, 59, along with two other students, reports KPCC. So far, at least 10 students claim they were sexually abused by Miller from the mid-1990s through 2010. One of his alleged victims says he was in a four-year sexual relationship with Miller.
According to Ashley Willis, who formerly attended Hamilton High School, for years there were rumors on campus that Miller was engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with students.
“There were so many allegations about him when I was there from 1998 to 2002,” she tells Campus Safety. “Some students would joke about it, but some were afraid to report it because they were afraid of the repercussions.”
The Miller scandal comes on the heels of allegations that a former Miramonte Elementary School teacher bound and gagged 23 students between the ages of 7 and 10, put cockroaches on some of their faces and posed in photos with them. In response to those charges, parents plan to demonstrate on Monday. Additionally, the school will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Another teacher at Miramonte Elementary School, Martin Bernard Springer, 49, has also been accused of sexual abuse of two 7-year-old girls inside his classroom.
