LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has halted home use of iPads meant to help scholars with their studies after more than 300 students thwarted security measures restricting their online access on the district-issued devices.
LAUSD launched the $1 billion program with the goal of supplying each of its 650,000 students with an iPad in an effort to level the academic playing field for scholars who come from low-income families. However, within hours of receiving the iPads, students cracked the security settings to access Twitter, Facebook and play video games, The Associated Press reports.
Administrators are currently working to improve security settings.
