PASADENA, Calif. – In the aftermath of an attack that left a dispatcher with multiple knife wounds, detective Alan Chan is urging Pasadena City College (PCC) to allow its police force to carry guns.
At 4:15 pm on June 10, an unidentified assailant breached campus security and struck officer Ralph Humphrey to the ground. When Humphrey raised his arms in defense, the attacker stabbed him several times with a steak knife and fled, leaving him with the knife lodged in his chest.
Chan, who works with the Pasadena City College Police Department, met with the Board of Trustees on Tuesday evening. He claimed that out of 109 California community college campus departments, only 10 still forbid firearms to their officers, including PCC.
PCC Vice President Kindred Murillo and other board members are currently discussing the implications of arming the police force with campus police Chief Peter Michael.
Humphrey is recovering in the hospital. The attacker is still at large.
