ABOUT THE COMPANY

West Coast Chain Manufacturing Co. is an employee-owned company that manufactures and distributes security products worldwide.

West Coast Chain Manufacturing Co. founder W.R. Lummis invented the Original KEY-BAK® Self-Retracting Key Reel in 1948. Lummis was a switchman on the Pacific Electric Railway in Los Angeles and saw other switchmen get injured when their key chains got caught on moving trains.

That’s when he invented the original KEY-BAK®, which he sold to other railroaders and eventually to locksmiths in the Los Angeles area. After the KEY-BAK® saw success, Lummis left his railroad job to manufacture and sell KEY-BAK® products full time in Pasadena, California.
