Kentucky Senate Passes School Safety Bill

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Senate unanimously passed a bill Tuesday that requires schools to conduct safety drills twice a year, teach classes inside locked classrooms and keep all outside doors locked.

Sen. Mike Wilson (R-Bowling Green) sponsored the bill and said the legislation reflects changes recommended by the Kentucky Center for School Safety, Courier-Journal reports. The bill now heads to the house.

On Tuesday, Rep. Richard Henderson (D-Jeffersonville) filed a similar bill in the House that would require schools to adopt emergency plans.
