Judge Releases Redacted UC Davis Pepper Spray Report

OAKLAND, Calif. — A judge authorized UC Davis on Wednesday to release a report on a pepper-spraying incident that occurred on the campus in November.

The names of individual officers should be deleted from the report before its release, said Alameda County Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo. The names of Police Chief Annette Spicuzza and Lt. John Pike will remain, as Spicuzza has been suspended without pay and Pike is shown spraying protestors in a video of the incident, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

A union representing the campus police argued that publishing the report with officer’s names would subject them to harassment and violate state confidentiality laws. The deletion of the names would protect the officers adequately, Grillo said.
