NORTH CAROLINA — A judge has ordered that the state’s campus police program reverse its decision to deny certification to a man who applied to work as a Duke University campus police officer.
Samuel Spencer Caldwell voluntarily stated during a polygraph test that a woman had accused him in 2005 of forcing intercourse upon her, the News Observer reports. Caldwell denied the incident and the woman did not report it to police.
According to court documents, the woman’s account did not hold up after a second interview, which was conducted last October.
State certification is required for a person to be hired as a private officer.
