Joliet Junior College Adopts MIR3 Emergency Notification Platform

Published: July 11, 2008

SAN DIEGO – MIR3™, the leader in intelligent notification solutions for global enterprises, announced July 1 that Joliet Junior College (JJC) has awarded the company a contract to be the official emergency notification platform for its Main Campus in Joliet, Ill., and its extended campuses and extension centers. JJC is one of many colleges and universities that have signed on with MIR3 in the last 12 months in response to highly-publicized campus emergencies, including the deaths of five students during a shooting rampage at Northern Illinois University in February.

MIR3’s inCampusAlert™ allows for instant dissemination of vital information to and from any communications device, including cell phones, e-mail, pagers, land line telephones, SMS and more. Deploying a system that can communicate via each of these devices is crucial within a student population, as faculty, staff, students and families need to have immediate access to important information during emergencies or other large-scale events, when traditional contact may not be available.

“The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff is a responsibility we take seriously,” said Jim Serr, interim vice president of learner support and technology services at JJC. “Our investment in MIR3 and its inCampusAlert notification system will allow us to communicate with anyone in the college community, on any device, and at a moment’s notice.”

MIR3’s notification capabilities are also used for routine, high-volume messaging and all-purpose broadcasting, such as administrative notices to employees, messages for coordinating staffing, weather updates and more. Additionally, MIR3’s system is the only notification system on the market today that allows for true two-way text messaging, provides real-time reports detailing recipient responses, and integrates an incident management tool ? all critical features when a campus community needs to quickly mobilize first-responders and officials during crises.

“In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech last April, schools across the country have begun-at a very rapid rate-to realize an urgent notificaton system is a must-have for a campus community,” said Ken Dixon, executive vice president for MIR3. “JJC is one of more than 100 schools that are now utilizing our solution to help keep students, faculty and staff safe.”
