A Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer acted appropriately in tasering an 82-year-old hospital patient, according to a report by the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP.
The patient, who was in the hospital due to pneumonia, allegedly threatened an officer with a knife at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops in May 2008, according to CBC News. He later insisted medications impaired his memory at the time and he could have been subdued without force due to his frail condition.
A Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP official noted that several unsuccessful attempts were made to disarm the patient by both hospital security and RCMP officers.
