Many Michigan schools are not conducting disaster drills or are not doing enough of them or are doing them too late in the year, according to an investigation conducted by a news agency.
MLive also reports than many of the state’s laws mandating documentation of drills are routinely ignored. The investigation revealed principals and superintendents didn’t know about the laws or found them inconvenient. In one case, documents were falsified.
Part of the problem is enforcement because the state and local emergency coordinators don’t check that schools and districts are complying with the laws.
