Intoxicated Woman Killed By Car After Leaving ER

SARASOTA, Fla. —A homeless woman was struck and killed by a car two hours after leaving Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Devon Marie McGann, 27, was transported to the hospital after staff at a library called paramedics, the Herald-Tribune reports. McGann was so intoxicated she was having trouble standing and could not dial her cellphone.

McGann should have been released to a family member or involuntarily admitted to a detox center for 72 hours under Florida’s Marchman Act, according to a source at the hospital. Instead, McGann left the ER while inebriated — footage from a hospital security camera showed her exiting alone.
