Inmate Wounds Corrections Officer at Neb. Hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. — An inmate receiving treatment at Bryan West Medical Center stabbed a Nebraska Department of Corrections (NDCS) officer at the hospital on Sept. 5.

The inmate, Robert Carter, 50, had been taken to the medical facility for undisclosed medical issues. During a trip to the restroom, the inmate stabbed the corrections officer with a metal butter knife. The officer suffered cuts to his neck and ear, WOWT.com reports.

Police officers were able to subdue the inmate outside his hospital room. In accordance with NDCS procedure, Carter was in leg restraints during the entire incident.
