GREENWOOD, Ind. — Officials for the Center Grove Community School Corp. (CGCSC) and the Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson United School Corp. are trying to find ways for keep students from thwarting security measures restricting their online access on school-issued iPads.
Up to 400 Center Grove High School students overrode security measures on their iPads so they could download games and apps for social media sites within hours of receiving the devices, The Daily Journal reports.
Prior to handing out the devices to students, CGCSC officials installed a program that would supposedly stop students from using the iPads to access Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or pornographic Web sites once they leave school grounds. School personnel later learned that the program couldn’t handle the number of devices it was filtering causing the iPads to run slowly or crash.
Meanwhile, students at Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson schools have tried to stop their iPads from linking to a school server controlling the Web sites they visit.
Both districts hope to teach students on how to use technology responsibly.
